This modern structure is the Central Control Building. From this building all range safety is controlled during rocket test firings and the 90-foot tower serves as an observation point for those viewing the static tests.

The S-II-2, second flight stage of the Saturn V space vehicle is shown being lifted into the S-II test stand for checkout and static test firing. The S-II test stand is 200 feet tall with a foundation that extends 40 feet below ground and rests on steel pilings each over 90 feet long. MTF

This huge S-IC-4, fourth flight stage of first booster rocket of the Saturn V space vehicle, spews smoke and flames as it was static test fired at MTF. The big 138-foot rocket, burning liquid oxygen and RP-1 kerosene, developed 7.5 million pounds of thrust during the static firing conducted by Boeing Company test crew. MTF is a component of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center,

Description: Ship Island Lighthouse 12 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast The lighthouse on the western end of Ship Island, 12 miles out from the mainland, is one of the points of historic interest on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Ashleigh's Note: The light house, first built in 1886, was damaged by the 1947 hurricane, then again by Hurricane Camille in 1969. In 1972, it was a total loss when it burned as a result of campers' out-of-control campfire that was too close to the lighthouse. Navy SeaBees from Gulfport volunteered to rebuild it in 1999-2000. It was totally wiped away by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

This tree is 150 years old and has a limb spread of 136 feet. Its height is 70 feet, and the circumference four feet above the ground is 14 feet. At high noon 600 people can stand under the shade of this tree. It is located on the campus of The Gulf Park College.
